Every traveler dreams of visiting some of the most beautiful places in the world, and they’re often willing to go the extra mile to experience something unique. If you’re looking for a little inspiration to plan your next trip, here are some of the world’s most spectacular places to visit in your lifetime.
1. Alaska
As soon as I landed in Alaska, my mom exclaimed, “It’s so green!” The sprawling expanse of green land and water captivates you as brown bears fish for salmon and native plants sprinkle the mountains. If you’re a foodie, I recommend indulging in Alaskan King Crab and Fireweed ice cream.
2. New Zealand
New Zealand has activities for everyone. If you want to glacier trek, white water raft, snorkel, or enjoy a day at the beach, you have multiple opportunities and locations to choose from. One time in London, I shared a tube ride with a New Zealander, and he claimed the water is the cleanest and purest out of all oceans in the world.
3. Japan
Japan is on my bucket list. From enthralling forests and beautiful beaches to illustrious displays of culture and history, Japan is a widely visited country in Asia. Don’t even get me started on the delicious food.
4. Iceland
Iceland is the number one country for vegans. I am a vegetarian, but when I traveled to Iceland, I indulged in their wealth of vegan menu items. Even at meat markets, you can find vegan options. Besides delectable dairy-free food, Iceland’s music scene is eclectic, iconic, and interesting, hosting the Iceland Airwaves music festival each year in the middle of Reykjavik. The country’s rich history and dazzling volcanos will drop jaws and enchant visitors.
5. Peru
Many travelers say Machu Picchu doesn’t earn the hype, but I don’t think they traveled to the spiritual destination. Of course, Machu Picchu is not the only thing to see in Peru, but if you visit the South American country without trekking to the wonder of the world, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
My group changed our itinerary to see the magic in person. Besides Machu Picchu, Peru’s wildlife, markets, and street food make it difficult to hop on the returning flight.
6. The Maldives
This beautiful strip of islands sits in the Indian Ocean near Sri Lanka and India and offers beautiful visions of white sand beaches made of coral and bodies of clear water. While lodging in the Maldives, you can sleep in an overwater bungalow while large marine creatures swim near the establishment. What’s not to like?
7. Antelope Canyon, Arizona
The western United States house stunning national parks. The canyons resemble waves rather than rocks, emitting infamous light beams through the cracks and openings in the canyon. Plus, the stone’s color is so ethereal you feel like you’re on Mars.
8. Serengeti National Park
Who loves a good safari? As much as Disney World and other attraction sites try to replicate safari adventures, nothing beats the actual African National Park. Serengeti National Park nuzzles itself in Tanzania, home to zebras, gazelles, lions, leopards, wildebeests, and many more.
9. Reed Flute Caves, China
Otherwise called The Palace of Natural Arts, the Reed Flute Caves are a bucket list location for geology enthusiasts. With iridescent rock fixtures, stalactite and stalagmite preservation, and waterways, the Reed Caves evoke a sense of wonder only achieved in the caves, dreams, and cinema’s hypnosis.
10. St. Petersburg, Florida
Coming from a native Tampanian/St. Petersburg resident, I can vouch for the beautiful beaches, the endless spread of museums and art galleries, and a strip of fine dining. St. Petersburg is the least “Florida-man” spot in Florida and has a vibrant musical and artistic community. The local galleries and museums host free or low-cost events for the public, such as album release parties, mixers, and art showings, and the food here brings the best culinary tastes to the table.
11. Bora Bora
Bora Bora, another Tahitian destination, is a luxurious landing spot for travelers. Activities include scuba diving around an iconic coral reef, canoeing, and exploring Mt. Otemanu. Some people skydive off the mountain with a wingsuit.
12. Tahiti
Known for its black sand beaches, volcanos, waterfalls, and lagoons, Tahiti is perfect for any jet-setter who wants to explore an isolated island. Bring out your hiking shoes, though, because many attractions require long walks.
13. Costa Rica
A few friends of mine just returned from. Costa Rica with nothing but great reviews. They initially visited to see a music festival. Still, upon arrival, the festival was canceled, so they explored the country, woke up to Howler monkeys screeching, indulged in delightful Costa Rican cocktails, and loved every second of their waterfall hikes.
14. Galapagos
Do you respect nature and wish humanity and nature would coexist more peacefully? The Galapagos is your dream destination. And, if you have a background in science, you’ll come face to face with Darwin’s launching pad. The Galapagos host animals endemic to the island and allow visitors to spend time birdwatching and observing the wildlife.
15. Jackson Hole, Wyoming
To the skiers and snowboarders reading, Jackson Hole is the place to be. In the winter, the Wyoming town offers three ski resorts, shopping, and fine dining, and in the summer, Jackson Hole is home to dude ranches, elk refuges, and national forest entrances. The town lies near Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park.
