Have you ever had a nightmare airport experience? I had a pretty gnarly layover in JFK, New York. From layovers to impossible lines, numerous things make airports unbearable. These airports are some of the most traveled airports in the world and have been ranked as some of the worst for sustaining travel issues.

1. Dallas – Fort Worth International Airport

DFW (Dallas Fort Worth International Aiport covers over twenty-six square miles, has five terminals, and one hundred and sixty-eight gates. Recently, DFW was awarded a thirty-million grant to make an electrical plant in order to achieve zero-carbon emissions by 2030. If you land yourself traveling through DFW, you can choose from a long-list of eateries over several terminals, lounges, spas, and nail and hair salons.

2. Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Hartsfield International Airport sees over ninety-three million passengers who pass through its terminals and is one of the major and busiest airports in the United States. In addition to its large amount of passengers, it has many lounges and a Delta Sky Club in all seven of its concourses. Over the recent years, this busy airport has developed over one hundred food and beverage shops, some of which are upscale establishments.

3. Chicago O’Hare International Airport

The busy Chicago International Airport has one hundred and ninety-three gates and has been quietly establishing itself as one of the busiest airports in the world. If you think that wasn’t crazy enough, this airport even has a Hilton Athletic Club inside that provides passengers with day passes for access to steam rooms, locker rooms, a lap pool, and sauna. When it comes to having the best airport lounges, Chicago O’Hare takes the cake.

4. Denver International Airport

Back in 2022, Denver International Airport added thirty-nine new gates, and has outdoor decks where passengers can enjoy the fresh air and soak up some of those stunning Colorado views. Families feel right at home here as Denver International Airport has nursing rooms, workstations, charging stations, and family lounging areas. In addition, one of the best features of Denver International Airport is its outdoor ice skating rink and live music during the holiday season that lasts from November thru January.

5. Los Angeles International Airport

LAX is one of the busiest airports in the world, and if you’ve ever traveled through here, you probably already know that just by the amount of traffic issues they have in the area. Scheduled for completion in 2023, LAX has made plans to construct a rail system to give access to and from the airport to help and alleviate some of its traffic problems. Every airport carrier has one or more lounges at Los Angeles International Airport, and has a wide variety of dining experiences.

Dubai International Airport had one of highest passengers volumes in 2022, with its passenger traffic increasing a whopping one hundred and twenty-seven percent. Spanning over three terminals, you’ll find several lounges and many dining and shopping options, so if you find yourself with a long layover here, you’ll have plenty to keep yourself occupied.

7. Heathrow Airport, London

In 2021, Heathrow Airport in London shockingly had its passenger traffic increase a whopping two hundred and eighteen percent, and is the primary international airport for the United Kingdom. In addition, you’ll have your choice from dozens of airport lounges and shopping destinations to adventure through.

Istanbul Airport is a newer facility, but it’s still one of the busiest airports in the world landing itself in the top 10 busiest airports. Istanbul Airport has over twenty-nine square miles of facility and will have six major runways. The latest terminal constructed at the airport was designed to resemble the style of domed mosques, while its control tower resembles a tulip, which is one of Istanbul’s traditional symbols.

9. Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris

Situated just twenty miles of Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport is the primary airport for Paris and the SkyTeam network for Europe.
