Whether you’re craving a beach getaway, an adventure in the mountains, or a cultural immersion in a vibrant city, these budget-friendly travel destinations have something for you. Travelers recently discussed and revealed some affordable yet beautiful countries, perfect for families and retirees. Have you been?

1. Indonesia

Particularly in Sumatra, you can easily find budget-friendly accommodations, with prices as low as $3 per night. Even if you opt for slightly more comfortable lodgings, the maximum expense would only amount to $6 per night.

One user said, “Four years ago, I was spending 75k [rupiah] a day for accommodation, which included three meals a day.” That’s just $6! But he added that some friends who went there last year said prices had risen to $8. Meanwhile, you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea for as little as $0.15 to $0.20.

2. Malaysia

One traveler admits Malaysia tops his list of most beautiful budget-friendly countries. With hotel rooms in main cities going for approximately $15 a night and breathtaking city views to accompany the nation’s natural splendor, he calls it a no-brainer must-visit country. Also, the fact that English is spoken throughout the country helps break down any language barrier a traveler may be anxious about.

3. Vietnam

Gorgeous green-blue waters, countless islands, and a mild climate make Vietnam a great choice if you want to be stunned by the country’s natural beauty. Visiting is also affordable: it’s no surprise that it’s usually first on the list of new travelers looking to explore a new country for the first time.

If you still need convincing, then a quick Google search for photos of Vietnam will persuade you to start looking for flights as soon as possible. Trust me; the country is that beautiful.

4. Costa Rica

For anybody living in the eastern United States, Costa Rica is a prime destination for anybody looking to experience a gorgeous country at a relatively low cost. If lush jungles, fabulous beaches, and tropical wonderlands interest you, look no further than Costa Rica. I must also mention that Costa Rica is home to millions of adorable monkeys, and who doesn’t love monkeys?

5. Poland

While Poland is known for being dark, grim, and war-torn, the country is working hard to change its perception in travelers’ eyes, as it’s very inexpensive. One woman sings the praises of Poland with a very engaging assessment. “Poland is a country teaming with majestic architecture, opulent cities, quaint villages, untouched natural beauty, fascinating history, and heartening culture,” she says.

It also offers a treasure trove of architectural, environmental, and cultural wonders for anyone who loves to explore.” Somebody give this woman a job in Poland’s tourism department because she was born to convince people to visit!

6. Bulgaria

According to one Bulgarian resident, there’s no place on Earth like his native country – and although he admits he’s a little biased, he also backs up his theory quite well! He declares it one of the best countries for young travelers, as the nightlife in many major cities is second to none.

Bulgaria’s landscape is packed with plenty of natural beauty, and it’s also possible to hike through the mountains in the morning and lay on the beach in the afternoon. In addition, the nation proudly has some of the best exchange rates throughout Europe compared to the U.S. dollar.

7. Czech Republic

Honestly, I think of somewhere other than Eastern Europe when I think of where I’d like to travel next. After all, I’m more of a tropical-weather kind of guy. However, after seeing so many travelers recommend the Czech Republic, I’m considering it more and more.

“Eastern Europe has become increasingly popular among budget travelers in recent years due to its affordability,” cites one digital nomad. “Cities like Prague offer a wealth of culture at very reasonable prices!”

8. Cambodia

Described by many travelers as “an absolute bargain,” Cambodia makes this list simply because it’s a beautiful country – there’s no other way to describe it. You can’t do much better than Cambodia if you’re a fan of beaches, tasty local cuisine, and a tourist-friendly environment. In addition, travelers frequently reveal that visiting ancient Cambodian temples was a life-changing experience. Who can say no to that, right?

9. Italy

While mainland Italy can be expensive, Sicily is one of the world’s most inexpensive and naturally beautiful islands. I vacationed in Sicily for a month and was blown away by the history, the buildings, the beaches, and, of course, the inexpensive Aperol Spritzes.

Everything seemed cheaper in Sicily than in other parts of Europe. The lighter load on my wallet made a fantastic trip even more unforgettable. So do yourself a favor and get to Sicily as soon as possible – skip the touristy cities like Rome and Naples. You won’t regret it.

10. Serbia

Admittedly, Serbia doesn’t appear on many “cheap and beautiful countries to visit” lists. However, according to one traveler, a renewed focus on the country’s tourism business is making Serbia a viable option for anyone wanting to explore a new place on a budget.

“Not only is it cheap, but you also have amazing food, friendly people, rich history, and wonderful nature.” Although the nation is landlocked (there are no relaxing beaches), there is plenty of natural beauty to engulf yourself in, making the trip worthwhile.

11. Georgia

If you want to visit an under-the-radar country, check out Georgia. Many people express surprise that Georgia is less popular with travelers. After all, like many countries on this list, it’s inexpensive, has a burgeoning food and wine scene, and offers incredible mountain hiking opportunities.

Moreover, it isn’t overrun with tourists taking advantage of a relatively cheap adventure (yet), making it even more appealing to any traveler tired of visiting the same trendy countries everybody visits.

Mailing Clothes Instead of Checking Bags: The Bizarre Trend That’s Catching On

Airlines tend to lose luggage, and although they issue customers with handy security checking tags, luggage handlers are human and make mistakes. My friend once waited two weeks to reunite with her lost luggage, and staying in a foreign country stranded without your clothes is not a great feeling. To combat those instances, travelers mention why they mail their bags to their destinations instead of checking their luggage.
