United States citizens looking to travel the world must heed U.S. travel advisories for safe travels. The crime risk has drastically escalated in many of the top vacation spots. Unfortunately, these destinations are unsafe due to the risk of violent crime or death. Please read to ensure you stay safe on your travels!

1. Mexico

Mexico is one of the world’s top vacation spots for its indulgent cuisine, ancient ruins, and tropical beaches. Unfortunately, this hot vacation spot has been listed on the United States Travel Advisory. The reason for this is that there have been issues with crime and kidnapping in many parts of Mexico, a spike that has warranted concerns for American travelers looking to have a safe and fun trip to this beautiful country.

2. The Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is another hot destination for those looking to get away from the United States for a much-needed vacation. The country features the outstanding beauty of the Caribbean, including its scenic beaches and spectacular clear blue waters.

As of right now, it is not recommended for travelers to go to the Dominican Republic due to increasing violent concerns such as armed robbery, sexual assault, and homicide.

3. The Maldives

Ranked one of the world’s top travel destinations, the Maldives are reputed for their thriving marine environment and perfect water visibility that makes it a top diving, snorkeling, and vacationing location.

It has been recently ranked Level 2 on the travel advisory for the United States. This means travelers are highly recommended to exercise caution. The issue is related to recent terrorism in the Maldives, so it is advised to avoid traveling to this location.

The U.S. Travel Advisory warns citizens not to travel to this country due to civil unrest caused by a coup d’etat and other conflicts that have arisen.

5. Sweden

It has been advised for travelers to refrain from visiting Sweden. As of recently, Sweden has been under threat of terrorist attacks, though the country has managed to prevent these horrific acts from occurring. The U.S. Travel Advisory recommends travelers avoid traveling to Sweden in case of an attack.

Like Sweden, Denmark has been under the threat of terrorist attacks, though it has managed to deter any attempts. The U.S. Travel Advisory also warns travelers not to travel here in case of an attack on Denmark.

7. Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago are dual-island travel destinations where travelers vacation amidst nature’s beauty. From white sands and palm trees to roaring waterfalls and tropical rainforests, Trinidad and Tobago are a paradise for travelers to unwind and relax.

As of July 2023, the United States has issued a travel advisory for Trinidad and Tobago due to the increased risk of crime, terrorism, and kidnapping.

8. Jamaica
