People don’t like getting insurance only because they don’t want to pay for something that they think they will never need. But, if you don’t have it when things go wrong, you’ll be left with a huge bill that can ruin you financially. May these real-life stories from travelers in an online forum show you just how crucial it is to spend a bit extra for the peace of mind and security of being covered when something unexpected happens.

1. Don’t Break a Leg

Our first one is about how a hospital employee in a prominent US city had the opportunity to treat numerous tourists—and, later on, witness how helpful insurance can be. Despite breaking both of his legs while on vacation, this particular patient’s insurance covered his hospital expenses and arranged for an accessible hotel upon his release. The best part? The hospital worker added that the insurance company even sent a personal escort to get him from his hotel in the States all the way to his home in Europe.”

2. Seattle Disaster

A  couple had an anniversary cruise set out of Seattle and decided to go to dinner the night before. In the morning, her husband had collapsed in their Airbnb with a heart attack. His heart had stopped several times, and they rushed him to a hospital where he was treated. Once home, the bills started to roll in, and they did not look pretty. Luckily, with travel insurance, they had every penny paid off by the insurance company and a refund for the cruise.

Additionally, once they arrived home, they were provided with a hospital room and a great staff of nurses.

He had gone to the bathroom and started to vomit blood, and his wife called the park medic. His treatment was all paid for because she opted to get travel insurance.
